Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect in my first session?

During your first sessions, we’ll discuss your primary concerns, challenges, and goals. I may ask directive questions to complete a diagnostic assessment, review relevant history, or have you fill out questionnaires. You’re welcome to go at a pace that feels comfortable and ask questions.

How long does therapy usually take?

The length of therapy depends on your symptoms, goals, and pace. Some clients see significant progress within 3-6 months while others benefit from longer-term support. Many clients continue therapy for 1-2 years, gradually decreasing session frequency, and some choose to continue ongoing sessions for maintenance. We’ll regularly check in to review your progress and adjust the plan as needed.

Do you accept insurance or offer sliding scale fees?

I am in-network with Aetna and United Healthcare. For other insurance plans, I can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement. I offer limited sliding scale fees in certain circumstances - please reach out for current availability. It’s important to note that insurance companies require mental health diagnoses for billing. If you’re not comfortable with this, self-pay may be a preferred option.

I’m hesitant about ERP. Are there other treatment options for OCD?

Yes. If ERP feels overwhelming, an alternative is ACT and mindful self-compassion, along with working to reduce compulsive behaviors without exposures. There is also a newer modality called Inference-Based Cognitive Therapy (IB-CBT), though I do not currently offer it.

Should you have additional questions, reach out through my contact form linked below and we’ll get connected.
